At a time when there is a call to support and advocate against violence towards Indigenous women across Canada, the YIWCL’s goals and objectives are aimed to incorporate leadership and self-esteem in young indigenous women through language and culture in teachings :
- to provide support and mentoring for young Indigenous women aged 10-16,
- to encourage young women to make healthy choices,
- to help young women learn skills to support one another,
- to build young women’s self-confidence and to value themselves as human beings
- to learn about traditionalcultural teaching, and ways of knowing
- to develop leadership skills that will sustain them throughout life to become good citizens
- to learn and value Indigenous languages
